ABOUT THE CHRISTIAN MONUMENTS IN THE TERRITORIES OF BALAKEN, OGUZ, ISMAILLY AND ZAGATALA REGIONS

Abstract

This article is devoted to the field archaeological research of Christian monuments of Caucasian Albania located in Balaken, Oguz, Zagatala and Ismayilly regions. Although archaeological researches have been carried out in the territories of the mentioned regions for years, many of the monuments have remained out of the study or have not been studied comprehensively. The author of the article has made a field archaeological research of the monuments for the last few years and he has defined their architectural measurements. In Balakan region the study has been carried out in the villages of Pochtbina, Jijihana, Garakly (Jinikhlilar, Daghilan and Daghilmayan churches), Gazma, Shambul, Halatala, Hanfa. In Zagatala region the study has been carried out in the village of Yukhary Chardaglar and in the territory of the game reserve Beretbina. In Oguz region the study has been carried out in the Udi Christian monuments in the centre of the region and in the villages of Jalut and Garabulag (two churches). In Ismailly region the study has been carried out in the Christian monuments in the village of Galagah. Comparing these monuments to the previous monuments which were archaeologically investigated they can be predated to the V-XIII centuries.
