THE ROLE OF GARDENING IN THE ECONOMIC LIFE OF ORDUBAD CITY

Abstract

Natural climatic conditions and fertile soils in Ordubad created favorable conditions for the development of various areas of
gardening. Ordubad people had hard time to support their living as a result of the city’s location away from the main trade routes. Therefore, they were engaged in gardening. The yearly increase in the areas of gardens belonging to the city's population was associated with this. High-quality grapes grown in vineyards, apple, pear, apricot, peach, cherry plum and other fruits grown in Ordubad were popular in all the surrounding areas. The products produced here were considered the most saleable products both in the local market, and also in neighboring countries and regions. Ordubad’s dried fruits were mostly
sent to Nakhchivan, Iravan, Tbilisi, Nukha cities, as well as the neighboring Karabakh and Garadagh Khanates.
