Abstract

The paper studies the family and family life with the help of dastans (narration) as the source of one of the genre of folklore. In the development of Azerbaijan ethnography study of different genres of folklore is of great importance. For a comprehensive study of the ethnographic heritage of Azerbaijan people from different sources are of great importance. From these sources, you can retrieve the scientific material. Especially important to explore the lyrical and heroic epic as ethnographic source. The rich folklore of our people is valuable as an auxiliary source. They are rich in ethnographic motives. They reflect the material and spiritual culture, as well as issues of family and family life. As part of Ethnography family is of great importance in society. It should be noted that the ethnographic motifs include the Middle Ages. They describe the world, customs, behavior patterns of the people. Different customs and rituals find their deep reflection in folklore. According dastans can set their antiquity. According to the collected materials we learn about marriage, wedding ceremony, birth, name-giving, about education. Here you can also learn about the customs of hospitality and funeral rites. All customs and ceremonies related to the family reflect the spirit of the people inherent in the Middle Ages.
