TRACES OF ZOROASTRø ANø SM øN ARCHø TECTURAL MONUMENTS OF BAKU

Abstract

The history of Baku and the Maiden Tower has been studied from an etymological point of view in the paper. The study of the architectural monuments and the temples, found in Northern Azerbaijan (Albania) is of particular importance. These should definitely be studied in connection with historical and literary sources. To this end, we tried to study the Maiden Tower comparably with other maiden towers existed in the Near East. The function of the Baku Maiden remains special in these terms. It is important for the determination of the stand of Zoroastrianism in the history and culture of Azerbaijan and the clarification of many unknown parts of ancient world history. It is necessary to explore religion and religious worldoutlook scientifically and objectively in order to identify their role in the history of civilization and culture. Zoroastrianism, as an important part of the Azerbaijani culture and history, has left a trace in the material and spiritual culture, as well as socio-political and ideological life of Azerbaijan. Therefore, the investigation of this problem is urgent for Azerbaijan's history. We therefore studied and explored the Maiden Tower in the context of Zoroastrian traditions in this paper.
