ANTIQUE PERIOD BURIALS IN STONE CHESTS ON THE TERRITORY OF AZERBAIJAN

Abstract

İn the article is given the analyses of antique period necropolis in the stone chests discovered on the territory of Azerbaijan. The author arrives to the conclusion that this type of burials as well as soil graves and burials in ceramic pitchers are the main type of burial ritual in the antique period on the territory of Azerbaijan. That) s to say, in the period of existence the state of Caucasian Albania. In the article is shown the relation of antique period stone chests with the burials of previous late Bronze and early Ironic periods of the similar type and is mentioned the successive features in the burial erections constructions. In the article a significant place is sharied to the analyses of burial stocks of Peshtar necropolis in the zone of the mountain Talish. Grounding on this analysis with the previleges of synchronous archaeological materials practically from all south Caucasus, the author defined the upper chronological limits of given necropolis dated back V-III BC that ventures to assert that this type of burials existed in Azerbaijan for the space of all antique period. That) s to say, beginning from the V-IV BC till the II-III AD.
