Abstract

The events happened throughout history, the major events that serving to the national-cultural development are preserved in archival documents and libraries being most important sources as a trace and voice of the past, yesterday over the years. All historical records concerning the First All-Union Turkological Congress that held in Baku in 1926 a hundred years ago have likewise been preserved in archival materials, old printed books, and periodicals housed in libraries. The events happened a hundred years ago, the atmosphere of that remarkable Congress is more clearly engraved in our memory while the books, the research works, monographs and etc. surrounding the transcript materials, photo materials, historical documents of the Congress were published.

Another important source reflecting the historical background of the Congress is the collection of bulletins issued by its Organisation Committee. Four issues of this historical document entitled as “Bulletin of the Organisation Committee Convening the First All-Union Turkological Congress” were published. These bulletins contain nine reports, nine theses, and two presentation programs prepared by delegates and participants. The signature of one important participant among the signatures of bulletins, who was unnamed in other research works and forgotten – Khudadad Bey Malikaslanov’s signature, attracts a special attention. In general, the valuable work in this way and the services rendered to Turkology by many distinguished intellectuals (including here, Kh. Malikaslanov, S. Mumtaz and etc.), who played significant roles in convening, organizing, and conducting of the First Turkological Congress, still await full scholarly recognition.

They have been translated, transphoneliterated, and prepared for republication by Associate Professor Sh.A. Hummatli and doc.A.G. Huseynova, PhD in Philology, at the Institute of Linguistics named after Nasimi of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, by considering the scientific-historical importance of these “Bulletin”s of the First Turkological Congress as primary valuable sources.
