About the Journal

The purpose of the publication of the international journal of "Turkology" is to inform the scientific community about the research carried out in the states of the world in Turkic philology and other areas, about the important achievements of recent years, the activation and development of research, the expansion of cooperation between Turkic centers and scientific ties, the coordination of research works and the development of the main directions, the establishment of scientific and organizational relations with national associations (societies) of turkologists on an international scale.

In recent years, the work carried out in this area has acquired even greater significance and scope, there is a need to improve the coordination of the work of various scientific institutions on Turkological problems, and to conduct fundamental research. The journal of "Turkology" is a scientific-coordinating, centralized Turkological press organ that functions on the basis of its position.

The first issue of the journal was published in April 1970. As an organ of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR and the Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijan SSR, the journal was the result of scientific, theoretical, practical activities, and the work of famous turkologists of the world. The Committee of Soviet turkologists, established at the Department of Literature and Language of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR by the Decree of the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR from October 11, 1973, also actively participated in achieving scientific results. From the time of appearance to July 1987, the editor-in-chief of the journal was a prominent Azerbaijani scientist, academician M.Shiraliyev, and from that time to 1993, a well-known turkologist, corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the SSR E.Tenishev, with a short break, a prominent scientist linguist A. Mammadov, until the end of 2015 - academician A.Akhundov, until 2016 - academician T.Hajiyev, from 2016 to December 2021 - academician K.Abdulla. On January 10, 2022, at the Academic Council of the Institute of Linguistics named after Nasimi of ANAS, the General Director of the Institute, Director of Philological Sciences, Professor Nadir Mammadli was elected as the editor-in chief, a new editorial board including employees of the Institute of Linguistics of ANAS, higher educational institutions of the republic, as well as world-class scientists who contributed to Turkic philology was approved. The editorial board, foreign consultants of the journal of "Turkology" is approved by the Academic Council of the Institute of Linguistics named after Nasimi of ANAS.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, since 1992, the journal, published under the name "Turkology", together with the academies of sciences of Azerbaijan, Bashkiria, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tatarstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, is the successor to the all-Union scientific and theoretical journal "Soviet Turkology". By the decision of the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan dated January 16, 1993, the founder of the scientific journal of "Turkology" is the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, the publisher is the Institute of Linguistics. The journal publishes scientific articles that have been peer-reviewed by the editorial board or specialists.

The journal of "Turkology" is included in the list of scientific journals on philology of the Higher Attestation Commission, reflecting the main scientific results of dissertations for the degree of Doctor of Science and Doctor of Philosophy. All copies of the journal published by years are included in the funds of the library named after M.F.Akhundzade. As part of the international exchange project, the journal is sent to the central libraries of cities and universities in Bosnia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, USA, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan.

At present, the journal, published twice a year, publishes articles by turkologists both in our republic and abroad, in Azerbaijani, Turkish, Russian and English.
