In poetry, onomastic units are used with certain stylistic purposes, and one of the major layers of the onomastic system is considered to be anthroponyms. Both ancient and modern Azerbaijani languages possess a rich anthroponymic lexicon, and abundant stylistic phenomena through the use of ellipsis are reflected in poetic texts. In some poems, personal names, surnames, patronymics, nicknames, pen names, and titles are frequently used, where certain contractions occur within these elements, and this linguistic ellipsis phenomenon is associated with mental processes and takes place within the brain apparatus of the creative individual, i.e., within the cognitive activity. The use of names of classical and contemporary Azerbaijani creative personalities in poetry is somewhat linked with certain psycholinguistic processes related to ellipsis. Poets have skillfully used from these phenomena in figurative comparisons, recollections, remembrance, expressions of respect, and admiration. Anthroponymic units are widely used in poetry to depict life events, where linguistic ellipsis is also significantly present.
