The motives of "forty warriors", "a horse" and "a weapon" in all-Turkic dastans

Abstract

Dastans consist of trials and confrontations. The hero cannot pass from these con-frontations alone. In the Turkic dastans, the hero’s faithful horse and his weapon play an equal important role as hero in his victory. The motif of the forties also has a main place as well as the motives of the horse and weapon in the Turkic dastans. Mainly, this motif characterizes forty alps, igids or warriors uniting around the hero that, they are as a whole really. They live together with the hero, fight together, and during the battle with enemies invisible forty igids help the hero in the difficulties and fight together with him. The motives of the horse, weapon and forty igids – the semantics of the power of around the hero have been studied, the epic paradigm of these motives in the testing of the hero has been in-volved to the research in the article.
