Abstract

Although “Avesta” is famous all over the world as a great event of Iranian culture, to this day some Azerbaijani scholars consider it a monument of Azerbaijan. As a result, such an idea is created that supposedly the origin of the Azerbaijani people is the Iranian ethnos, which later became Turkic. However, the text of “Avesta” clearly shows that it is a work that reflects the Iran-Turan conflicts that took place in ancient Azerbaijan precisely for the benefit of the Iranians.

The author of the article, based on the ideological and aesthetic spirit of the epic and the rich anthroponymy of Iran and Turan, tries to prove that “Avesta” has no genetic relation to the Azerbaijani people of Turkic origin. Therefore, it is completely absurd to include this work in the history of Azerbaijani literature and to look for features of the ancient Azerbaijani language here without even delving into the essence of the matter. As Ferdowsi's “Shahnameh” belongs to the Azerbaijani people, so does Zoroaster's “Avesta”. And here we can talk only about literary-textual relations.
