SETTLEMENT OF JEWS IN AZERBAIJAN: HISTORICAL TRACES

Abstract

Due to its geographical location and strategic position, Azerbaijan has historically hosted diverse peoples. Some peoples who passed through these lands due to trade and wars stayed and settled here. One of the peoples our country hosts are Jews. Among the peoples who have always lived in peace and security in our country, Jews can be especially noted. The Jewish community of Azerbaijan has a centuries old history. They migrated and settled in the lands of Azerbaijan at certain stages of history. However, they have never been subjected to discrimination or assimilation in our country at any historical time. Jews played an active role in the socio-cultural life of the country. The historical study of the settlement of the Jewish community in Azerbaijan, which has an ancient history, in these lands is particularly relevant against the backdrop of Azerbaijan-Israeli strategic relations.
