Abstract

This article investigates the syntactic features of proverbs in Azerbaijani (Nakhchivan region) and English, which constitute an essential part of folklore in both languages. The study aims to identify the types of subordinate clauses used in complex proverbs and to compare their similarities and differences. Proverbs are categorized according to the types of subordinate clauses, and the syntactic structures in both languages are analyzed comparatively. The scientific novelty of this re- search lies in the fact that, for the first time, Azerbaijani proverbs from the Nakhchivan region and their English equivalents are examined from a linguistic perspective. Only proverbs selected from academic publications and verified against normative sources are included. The findings provide valuable insights for linguists, folklorists, and scholars of comparative linguistics.
