The presented article is devoted to the analysis of the peculiarities of the development of ornamentation in the piano music of Azerbaijani composers. Azerbaijani piano music, which originated at the beginning of the last century, has rich traditions and has passed a difficult path of development in a short period of its formation. The rich heritage of piano music gives researchers the opportunity to explore it from different angles. The analysis of the peculiarities of ornamentation in our piano music was for the first time widely carried out in the presented study. This characterizes the scientific novelty of the research. Ornamentation is one of the synthetic issues in Azerbaijani music science and was first implemented by the founder of Azerbaijani professional music, composer U.Hajibeyli. The first types of ornaments in Azerbaijani piano music were revealed in the works of A.Zeynalli. The ornament in new forms was presented in the works of Niyazi, J.Hajiyev, M.Nasirbekov, M.Akhmedov, as well as K.Karayev, F.Amirov, E.Nazirova, T.Guliyev and others, who were the first creators of piano music in Azerbaijan. Here, along with simple types of ornament, there are complex ornamental formulas consisting of various two- and three-elements. And since the end of the XX century, in connection with the new technique of writing, the expressive possibilities of ornaments have expanded even more. Here, along with the keys of the instrument, there are ornaments made in its internal piano design. For this reason, three stages of ornamentation can be distinguished in Azerbaijani piano music: the classical, the complex period and the recording of ornamentation with the help of a new writing technique. All this allows us to note that ornamentation is one of the important expressive means in Azerbaijani piano music.
