          Abstract

The article analyses the geological structure, lithofascial, tectonic and morphological features of the Muradkhanli oil field, which is considered a productive field in terms of oil and gas. Morphologically, it is a brachianticlinal fold directed from north-west to south-east. As a result of the analysis of the vertical sections of deep wells drilled in the field, it was determined that the section of this fold consists of Mesozoic, Paleogene-Miocene, Pliocene-Anthropogenic sediments. Sediments of section are characterized by high reservoir properties. The study of the Muradkhanli field suggests that the reservoir properties of the rocks that make up other structures formed in the vicinity, in approximately the same geological conditions, will not be significantly different and are likely to be promising in terms of oil and gas. As a result of the studies, the oil content of volcanic rocks of the Upper Cretaceous in the central and southwestern limbs of the structure was determined. However, the upper part of the effusives was intensively eroded with the formation of a weathering crust. The resulting weathering crust over the entire area is characterized by different reservoir properties. This diversity affects the differences in oil saturation of effusives and well flow rates. The Eocene and Chokrac sediments, which are considered to be syngenetic oil and gas sediments are overlay on the eroded surface of Mesozoic volcanic sediments. Both the unconformity surface and tectonic contact area, the eroded surface between Mesozoic and Paleogene sediments are may play a role of migration pathway for hydrocarbons. Areas, where widespread Eocene clays, which preserved of hydrocarbons accumulations in the Mesozoic sediments by migrating along the unconformity and faults are promising in terms of oil fields formation.
