A BRIEF EXCURSION INTO THE HISTORY OF THE STUDY OF SAMPLES OF LABOR SONGS OF NATIONAL MUSICAL FOLKLORE

Abstract

The article is devoted to the results of the research conducted on the status of the collection, systematization, and notation of samples of labor songs, which are one of the genres of national music folklore in Azerbaijan to this day. Examples of folklore labor songs collected by a number of prominent folklorists and composers are given. Examples of labor songs collected by the author during several personal expeditions to the Sheki region in connection with the topic of his doctoral dissertation are shown. The notation of these samples is recorded and a brief musical analysis is conducted. The author presents himself as a pioneer ethnomusicologist on musical labor songs of the Sheki region. The place, evolutionary process, and characteristic features of labor songs in the national folklore of Azerbaijan are investigated. Within the framework of the dissertation work, a comparative analysis of labor songs of Sheki with labor samples distributed in the other two regions (Zagatala and Gakh) identified as the object of research, as well as in a number of other regions of our republic, is carried out.
