Poorly permeable formations are often rich in reserves of oil, gas or gas condensate. These fields are included in the group of hard-to-exploit fields and cover 51-67% of the exploited fields. These fields have great potential, which gradually made it the main goal of oil and gas field development. After the initial and second (fountain and stabilization) periods of oil and gas production, a high amount of residual oil still remains in the formations. Most of such fields are paraffinized and the percentage of water has increased, so the application of old methods leads to the cessation of the activity of these fields. However, the fact that these deposits have a very high hydrocarbon reserve leads to the extraction of this reserve and a high economic efficiency with the application of new methods. Therefore, in order to further improve the exploitation of residual oil and the production of crude oil, "technologies for enchaced oil recovery" have been developed. This article deals with the issue of developing a method of increasing oil yield by applying nanotechnology. As a result of research, it has been determined that metal nanoparticles injected into oil wells through suspended carriers penetrate the rock pores and react with carbonates, which are the main constituents of rocks. In an isothermal reaction with the release of heat, carbon dioxide is released. In the pores, there is a relaxation of pressure and acidity, which leads to an improvement in formation permeability and a decrease in viscosity. At the same time, the phase voltage in the oilwater contact decreases. Nanoparticles cause changes in wettability due to their rheological parameters. As a result, there is an increase in the mobility of the residual oil stuck in the pores, which creates effective conditions for the flow of oil into the well with a strong flow from the formation. Currently, the demand for the application of nanoparticles to improve the oil yield in world technology is increasing day by day. The article presents the most common nanoparticles, their physico-mechanical properties, and an overview of several studies.
