      Abstract

Up to 800 medicinal plants have been formed in the rich and colorful vegetation of Azerbaijan. The flora of Azerbaijan can be considered as a source of plants rich in biologically active substances. It is clear that medicinal plants are the most important source of raw materials for preparing medicinal preparations. Most of these plants have been used as a very effective tool to treat various diseases since ancient times [4]. Wormwood (Artemisia L.) is an annual, biennial, perennial semishrub and herbaceous plant belonging to the family of Asteraceae Dumort. The Latin Artemisia is derived from the name of the Greek princess, meaning healthy. It is common in the Northern Hemisphere, Eurasia, North and South Africa, and North America. The genus Artemisia L., which has 500 species in the world, has 180 species in the Caucasus and 42 species in Azerbaijan. In the wild, it is spread on roadsides, river and lake shores [3]. Wormwood and substances obtained from them are used in the treatment of various diseases in folk and scientific medicine. In the presented article, the distribution, botanical description, and useful properties of some species belonging to the Artemisia A. genus in the Absheron region were studied.
