The article is devoted to the constructive features, principles of operation and identification of the missing features of the known devices intended for the protection of river banks from washing and erosion, as well as protection from flooding. It has been found that known embankment structures have a number of shortcomings and their capacity to fight flooding is quite low. In order to increase the effectiveness of embankment devices and expand their functional capabilities, a new embankment device, different from its predecessors, was developed and its construction, working principle and protection capacity were explained. The proposed embankment device consists of bottom sills with a practical profile, guiding wall, protective-directing head, reinforced concrete cover, sand-gravel preparation layer, heel and large river stones laid on the heel part. The device has the ability to work as a coast guard, embankment and flood protection device.
