The tert-butylcyclopentadienyl-tricarbonyl complex of molybdenum dimer complex [(tertC4H9C5H4Mo(CO)3]2) was synthesized at the first time, the process of its melting, which is accompanied by decomposition, was characterized by the melting point, its infrared (IR) and proton NMR) spectra. Single crystals of the dimeric complex are grown, and its crystal structure is established by Xray diffraction analysis. As a result of a comparative analysis of the obtained structural parameters (bond angles and lengths) with the corresponding parameters of the unsubstituted dimeric complex [(C5H5Mo(CO)3]2), the presence in the complex [(tert- C4H9C5H4Mo(CO)3]2) of a steric interaction between tert -butyl group and carbonyl ligands and its effect on the thermal stability of the complex. Consideration of the frequencies of stretching vibrations of the CO bond in both complexes made it possible to unambiguously confirm the above conclusion. Based on the above results, it was concluded that the study of the dimeric complex [(tert- C4H9C5H4Mo(CO)3]2) as a precursor in the synthesis of carbon nanotubes is expedient.
