Architectural Characteristics of the Ottoman Dwellings in the 19th Century Western Travel Books

Abstract

In the 19th century, most of the travelers visiting the Ottoman lands were diplomats and their families. It is clear from the travellers’ account that the purpose of the travelers was not only to visit the Ottoman lands but also to pass the gatherd information to their countries. And the amount of information regarding different Ottoman cities in these travel books is varied; although they give a comprehensive account on some Ottoman towns, on most of them it is too narrow.
