Abstract

It’s known, that theory about poetic fiqures and tropes was developed by one-day caliph Ibn al-Mu’tazz(861-908). His work “Kitab al-badi’” (“Book about new” or “Book of poetic figures”) is the first original treatise on poetics. Ibnal-Mu’tazzconfirms that the “new style” was not formed by the new poets of 8th-9th centuries. One can find the examples of this style in the poems of jahiliyyah period poets’, in the Koran, and in Prophet’s sayings. Poetic fiqures and tropes such as ‘istiara’, ‘tashbih’, ‘ifrat fissifa’, ‘tajnis’, ‘ishtiqaq’, ‘raddul-ajz’, ‘talmih’ and so on, are considered very impotant in the poems of the Arab poets included in the autology “Yatimat ad-dahr” which we study.
