Abstract

Known by his pen-name Asafi, Dal Mehmet Chelebi was a secretary of Imperial Council. Asafi served Lala Mustafa Pasha as a scribe on the eastern campaign. Later he was appointed as the recording secretary and administrative assistant to the governor-general of Shirvan Ozdamiroghlu Osman Pasha.
The manuscript includes seventy-seven miniatures painted by several artists of a similar style. Some of the paintings in the Sujaatnama illustrate the events that Asafi Mehmet Chelebi personally experienced during the campaign. In this respect the work can be respected as an illustrated diary. The absence of another work in this genre renders uniqueness to his work.
