Abstract

Ali Aycil, one of the remarkable writers of recent times in Turkish literature, is among the writers who apply Eastern narration style. Ali Aycil, whose first book "Last Apprentice of Arasta" is in a poetic genre, has also tried his pen in essay and story writing. The book "Sur City's Stories" is the author's first and only story book till now. In the book that includes 21 stories, the patterns of Eastern traditional narrative are traced. The present article studies his story "Magician Seyfettin's Last Magic" which is included in that book. In the story, especially classic features of Eastern stories are analysed. It is focused on how the writer benefitted from traditional Eastern narration. It is highlighted that he comes away from "mimesis" that is Western story notion, and he leans on isolation which is the base of Eastern story telling. It is underscored that the writer ignores details based on this tradition both in the presentation of artistic time and place, and in the description of the characters.
