The image of Shah Ismail Khatai in the works of Iskender Pala

Abstract

Iskender Pala is one of the well-known figures of contemporary Turkish literature. Referring mainly to the theme of historical novel, Iskender Pala tried to describe the events that took placein the Ottoman history. The article is about his well knownShah and Sultan novel, which has caused more noise. In the novel we are visiting the Ottoman Emprire. Shah and Sultan novel is about the two mighty rulers of the Turkic world, Shah Ismayil Khatai and Sultan Selim. The story tells about the Battle of Chaldiran in 1501, the political, economic and cultural situation of the Ottoman and Safavid states. In Shah and Sultan novel, besides the images of historical figures like Shah Ismayil Khatai and Sultan Selim we see characters such as Gambar, Hussein Lale, Tacli, Jafar Chalabi and others. But in the article, we give more information about the author’s subjective thoughts about the two mighty warriours.
