Abstract

Alaattin Diker is one of the writers of Turkish immigrant literature who lives in Germany, knows Western and Eastern civilization closely, and tries to be a bridge between both. He writes by analyzing modernity and traditional life, Islam and secularism, the past, the present, and the future together, and he gives importance to honesty while writing. He tries to understand the East and the West without binding them to any tradition by examining their history from the roots and writing brand new and original writings by living and feeling. My thoughts on Alaattin Dicker were formed not only by reading his writings. My thoughts were strengthened after meeting him live. We met with Alaattin Dicker at the Neumarkt Buchhandlung Mayersche bookstore in Cologne, Germany. My meeting with him allowed me to evaluate German and Turkish immigrant literature from a broader and different perspective in a cross-cultural context.
