Abstract

Sharif Hatata (1923-2017) is one of the most famous representatives of modern Egyptian lit-erature. A physician by profession, he was actively involved in journalism and professional writing, lectured on literature in the United States and Great Britain. Later on he was imprisoned for many years due to his political activities, in particular participation in the anti-imperialist struggle against British colonization in Egypt.
He married the Egyptian writer, feminist and political activist Nawal Al-Saadawi in 1964. She, like Sharif Hatata, holds a medical degree and is the founder of the Egyptian Health Education Association and the Egyptian Women Writers Association.
The characteristic features of the writer's work include a detailed reflection of the political life of Egypt at the end of the 20th century, and the depth of transmission of the aspects of moral and psychological development of literary images. The article examines the autobiographical novel of Sharif Hatata "The Eye with an Iron Lid" and the novel "The Net", which extensively analyze the social and political life and the anti-imperialist struggle of the Egyptian people against British colo-nization at the end of the last century.
