Abstract

Eastern and Western ways of thinking, along with some similarities, are different in terms of patterns of development, culture and artistic poetry. Since the 1930s, extensive research has been carried out to identify the differences between the East and the West. In the West, humans are considered free individuals who are equal in fights; conceps of legal state were also created within the framework of the Western tradition. In the East, however, the interests of the family, unity, and the state have always prevailed over the interests of the individual. To briefly express the difference between the Western and Eastern ways of thinking one can give the following account: Easterner is impressionist, but westerner is interested in details. Western mindset is based on concrete analysis, sensory experience and the inductive method; whereas, latter prefers illuminative or intuitive perception.
To illustrate Eastern and Western mentality in the paper we refer to the great thinkers and philosophers both from the East and West. Thus, although nations are different, customs, religions and languages are different, the path to the great idea is one, and this unity is achieved through the endeavor of the great minds of human race.
