Paremiology is a branch of linguistics that studies proverbs and sayings. In Azerbaijani paremiology, as in other cultures, there are certain gender differences. However, it should be noted that paremiology is a folk heritage and therefore may reflect traditional ideas about the roles of men and women in society that may not meet modern standards of gender equality. The methodology of gender differences in paremiology studies differences in the use of sayings, proverbs and idioms depending on the gender of the speaker and who is being spoken about.
