Abstract

The anonymous poetic story "Sheikh Sanan", dating to the XVIII century, is a valuable written source from the point of view of a broad and detailed study of the history of our literary language. Several handwritten copies of the poetic story were made in Azerbaijan in the XIX century. The texts of these manuscripts use a number of lexical units that are archaic for our modern literary language. Words of this kind are found in written monuments of Azerbaijan of the XIV-XVI centuries. The article comprehensively and comparatively examines some lexical units used in the language of the anonymous poetic story “Sheikh Sanan”, such as ayıtmaq, buşmaq, diñlənmək, görklü, tapu, etc.
