Real culinary terms in Azerbaijani and english and their opposites in dictionaries
Abstract
Culinary terms in languages with different systems act as realia because they are a reflection of the customs and culture of the people they belong to. Realia, which are exotic words, are not translated into other languages like many other lexical units, but are used as they are in the source language. In fact, the names of food and drink created by each nation are realia for other languages. The presence of such lexical units in the dictionary makes the language unique. Realia have always attracted the attention of experts. When realia are adopted by another language, they acquire the right of citizenship in that language either temporarily or permanently. The names of dishes of Azerbaijani national cuisine are explained in English or transliterated.
