Abstract

The suffix “age” belonging to the French language, which creates mostly masculine nouns, is one of the most productive suffixes in the Azerbaijani language. The suffix «age», which expresses the meaning of movement, can sometimes also express the general plural meaning. The nouns created with the participation of this suffix usually express concepts related to various fields of industry and agriculture.

In the Azerbaijani language, as well as in modern linguistics, there should be an appro priate method to determine the productivity of this or that suffix. In fact, such a method is being developed in the research works of recent years. From this point of view, comparing the quantitative indicators of newly created words with words that have become obsolete within a certain historical period of time, undoubtedly provides a certain basis for evaluating the direction in which the productivity of word-correcting suffixes has developed.
