Abstract

In the article, the principles of giving the term and its definitions in explanatory terminological dictionaries are defined. Concepts that arise according to the research object of each science distinguish different fields of science from each other. In terms, the nominative function includes the quality of meaning in the terminological unit, and the term expressing concepts in all fields of science is its main characteristic. Within the field, the term incorporates the main aspects of the concepts. From this point of view, the inseparable nominative and definite functions of the term complement each other. Therefore, in the compilation of the explanatory dictionary, the definition of the term, distinguishing signs in the definition of the concept should be chosen correctly. The process of determining the definition of a term in the dictionary is the main stage. In the definition, naming the concept of the term as a process is defined with reference to its characteristic features. The definition is determined according to the main characteristics that distinguish any term from other terms, and the concepts that express concrete and abstract objects in the dictionary are determined based on the signs in the definition.
