Ambiguity is a contextual phenomenon in which the meaning of any syntactic unit or homonym in a text can be understood in more than one form. This, in turn, prevents the delivery of correct information, denying the essence of the transmitted target meaning. It is the pragmatic contextual analysis of ambiguous situations that makes it possible to distinguish the main meaning from the alternative meaning, since pragmatics studies the semantics of linguistic units against the background of an expression. Due to the fact that the correct presentation of target information directly depends on the correct selection of locutionary and illocutionary acts, it is possible to neutralize pragmatically ambiguous situations depending on the context. In the mentioned article, pragmatics and its essence were discussed, as well as ambiguous situations, and examples related to their various types were analyzed in a pragmatic aspect.
