The concept of prosody and intonation

Abstract

The article deals with the question of the concept of prosody and intonation in linguistics. As you know, prosody is one of the important elements of speech. This is the rhythm, tone, intonation, accent of speech. The article notes that in prosody, the range of the voice, the raising and lowering of the tone of the voice, and the pause are important factors.

In general, many phonetic means are used in prosody. The concept of prosody is connected, first of all, with the theory of intonation. Intonation reflects the syntactic structure of speech. It provides clarity of thought in a sentence and is essential. It should also be noted that usually the term prosody and the term intonation are used in the balance, that is, they are considered synonyms. However, sometimes in linguistics, the terms prosody are differentiated with the term intonation. The views of many linguists on this topic have been investigated, and they are reflected in the article.
