Abstract

The article presents the first results of paleoseismological studies between the University of Oxford and the RSSC of ANAS. In April 2021, negotiations began on the creation of a mega-project to study active tectonics and earthquakes in Azerbaijan. The first field
geological studies under the supervision of Professor Richard Walker were conducted in April 2022after numerous meetings and negotiations. According to advanced technologies, including satellite imaging, drone modeling, GPS and InSar technologies, seismic deployment and paleoseismic excavations in the Aghsu and Salyan districts, the fault traces of the Main Caucasian thrust and the West Caspian strike-slip faults were studied. The results of the studies are preliminary, and more detailed analysis of the collected data and geological samples is required in order to obtain the final results.
