Abstract

The study of divine (Tengrism-based) beliefs reflected in Oghuz proverbs and sayings is essentially an exploration rooted in Oghuz Turkic thought, preserving traces of ancient Turkic life and expressing profound judgments that reflect the spiritual and intellectual experience of our ancestors. These examples allow a holistic view of the mythic destiny of ancestral thought. They display the unity of character and divine orientation, mature expressiveness regarding various stages of life, rich observation of nature, economy, and daily existence, as well as totemic reflections of beings consistent with ancestral behavior and worldview. All these perspectives generate valuable insights for national self-consciousness today and for the future.

Under the title “Divine Beliefs”, these views are generalized: the uniqueness, maturity, and behavioral distinctiveness of the people shape their distinguishing identity among other nations.

In Oghuz proverbs and sayings, we witness that such features have been transmitted through writing since ancient times, and more importantly, preserved in collective thought and genetic memory. Even in new stages of history, significant aspects of these characteristics continue to live within national character.
