THE PLACE OF LEGENDS AND RUMORS IN DERBEND FOLKLORE

Abstract

One of the important tasks facing Azerbaijani folklore studies is the systematic collection and research of the folklore of Derbend. In the article it is mentioned that during the documentation of folklore samples from each region, it is of great importance to record not only mythological names and ethnographic terms, but also local place names and dialect words. It is also noted that this aspect should be taken into account when documenting folklore samples collected from Derbend.

The article provides a more detailed analysis of legends and tales collected from Derbend. In general, legends and tales are considered epic genres that are closely related to each other. Taking this into account, the legends and tales of Derbend are divided into two groups: examples related to historical figures and events, and examples associated with place names. Each of these groups is analyzed separately in the article.
