ON THE CONCEPT OF “KAIYP” IN THE EPIC “MANAS”

Abstract

In folklore, of great interest is the national heroic epos, as a carrier of tradi- tional culture and national outlook.
In this case, the object of scientific research is the religious and mytholo- gical motives of the Kyrgyz heroic epos "Manas". In particular, the author focuses on the concept of “kaiyp”. The main goal of this study is to determine the concept of “kaiyp” based on the materials of the options of S.Orozbakov, S.Karalaev, M.Chokmorov and Sh.Azizov. The novelty of this article is that it is one of the first works exploring the concept of “kaiyp” as a religious and mythological motif of the epic “Manas”.
The author reveals the concept of “kaiyp”, and tries to give his own define- tion of the meaning of this motive in the epic tradition. The author also examines the connection of the Kyrgyz epic representation of “kaiyp” with the Islamic religious representation of “hidden state” and draws its conclusions.
