Theme and artistry in the poems of Fatima Khanum Kemine

Abstract

The Azerbaijani poetess of the 19th century Fatima Khanum Kemine is of the literary environment of Karabakh, who has a significant role in the history of our literature. It is mentioned about the poetess in the collection of Mir-Mohsun Navvab “Tezkireyi-Navvab” compiled in the 19th century and in “Materials on the history of Azerbaijani literature” by Firidun bey Kocharli. In 1971 professor Aziza Jafarzadeh published and wrote an foreword to the collection of poems by the poetess and included five literary examples of ghazals from it in her book “Azerbaijani women-ashugs and poetesses” (1991).
Interest in the poetess’s work has especially increased recently, after the Decree of President Ilham Aliyev, declaring 2022 the “Year of Shusha,” and many articles about her life and work were published. But in most of these articles the researches have not been carried out from a professional point of view. To study the direction of development of the history of our literature, it is very important to involve the artistic thematic features of the poetess in the study.
The article examines the works of Fatima Khanum Kemine and examines her legacy. During the study, work was carried out on the texts, the judgments and attitudes of poets who addressed similar motives in their works have been examined. The work is based on hermeneutic and historical-comparative methods.
