Abstract

The genre of “Feast during the plague” is defined by Pushkin himself as a “little tragedy”. The topic of the article is relevant and poorly developed. The relevance of the article is connected not only with the new genre form of “little tragedy”, but also with the fact that the problems posed here will later become the leading problems of such a trend in philosophy as existentialism. This is a new understanding of the problem of life and death, human existence, freedom and necessity, which are solved in the tragedy “Feast during the plague” not in a romantic way.
In the article we tried to consider the origins poetics and artistic idea of “Feast during the plague”. Pushkin is original as an artist: even borrowing well-known stories and characters, he reinterprets them in his own way, fills them with new philosophical content, and creates a new work, such as “Feast during the plague”.
The philosophical problem of Pushkin’s tragedy makes his works modern and relevant. The problems of freedom of choice, life and death, the existence of human, the preservation of his individuality in the modern world are also relevant, as in the days of Pushkin.
