The development of the biographical method in literary studies is connected with the name of the 19th century French critic and writer Charles Saint-Beauve. In the method of analysis proposed by him, it is preferred to study the writer's biography in depth, to draw parallels between the personality of the writer and the work of art during the analysis of the literary work. It is noted that the roots of this genre go back to ancient times.
Over time, new forms of works written in this genre have been created and improved by passing a certain path of development.
In the 20th century, the French writer Andre Morois created a new novel form of the ancient biography genre by writing the biographies of a number of famous writers based on documents and facts.
Aziza Jafarzade is considered the creator of the first biographical novel genre in Azerbaijani literature.
