Abstract

The object of the research is the stories of Mammadaga Sultanov, connected with the sequences of the publication under the signature “M.Soltan”, relating to the 30s of the last century. Thus, in the Azerbaijani literature of the 20th century, stories make up a large part of the artistic creativity of Mammadaga Sultanov, who is known as an artistic translator of our classical Persian literature and the works of Eastern thinkers. As a result of the study, it becomes clear that the years 1931-37 are the most productive period in his story. It is reported that the writer did not break away from the story throughout his life and occasionally appeared in print with small prose works. The atmosphere of that time is felt in his stories, which are interpreted throughout the article based on the examples given. In the research, M.Sultanov’s “Husnu Pickes Cotton”, “Sky Man”, “Aziz”, “Zalivka”, “Brigadier General Hasan”, “In Ilyich Bay”, “Among Fishermen”, “Gül Sabah”, “On Pirshagi” works were examined. The stories “The  Road”, “Dream of Youth”, “Inseparable Friends”, “Molla Fetullah's Last Word” and “Nowruz and Muharrem” were studied. These satirical, humorous and essayistic works of the author were considered against the background of the works of his predecessors and contemporaries.
