In the 60s and 90s of the 20th century, Mammadhuseyn Aliyev was one of the writers who had an indisputable contribution to the formation of the Lankaran literary environment. M.Aliyev, who began his literary career with poetry, later became a prose writer and as a prose writer and dramatist he gained wide readership in Azerbaijan and the former Soviet Union. The story genre has a special place in M.Aliyev's creativity. The first published story "Village teacher" was published in “Azerbaijan teacher” newspaper in 1957 and the independent story book “Lankaran stories” was published in 1967 in “Ganjlik” publishing house, which included eleven stories of the writer. In these stories, the heroic pages of the great nation, the wounds caused by the bloody war, the meaningful years of a teacher's life, the difficulties faced by young writers, etc. has found its reflection.
In the stories “Narinj khanim”, “Avaz”, “Sevinj”, “Something is missing”, “The last regret” published in the book “Lankaran stories”, the climate of the Lankaran land, its historical culture and today, the hard work and hospitality of its people, in general, created by the Lankaran literary environment, which is considered the center of the region, is clearly felt.
The stories “Unsigned”, “Iron support”, “Teacher”, “Fringed shawl”, “Decree”, “Hampa oghlu”, “Exam”, “Stem”, “Betrayal”, “Treasurer Alibaba”, “Final Exam” etc. which the writer wrote in the following years and published in various media outlets are united by a common spirit regardless of the years in which these stories were written: loyalty to the truths of the past, protest against the vices that plague the society.
The study of M.Aliyev's stories allowed us to come to the conclusion that, as in his prose works in other genres, he preferred the description of human character formed in the whirlwinds of life in his stories, and by sticking to the truths of life, as a rule, he wished that good would triumph over evil in the end, called the readers to fight for truth and enlightened actions.
