Abstract

Mir Mohsun Navvab Agamirzazade Garabaghi (1833-1919) is one of the poets who occupied a unique place in the development of Azerbaijani literature of the 19th century. In the history of our literature Mir Mohsun Navvab was known as poet, musicologist, artist, calligrapher, alchemist, mathematician, astronomer and  had an encyclopedic intellect.

The poetry of the Navvab is poetry associated with the classical traditions. His work echoes the traditions of Fuzuli in terms of expressing lyrical emotions, Zakir in terms of criticizing the injustices of his time with satirical colors, Seyid Azim Shirvani in terms of reflecting realities.

The poet’s work contains many religious themes and poems of Sufi content. In all these verses, Navvab preached Islamic values and also preached the high spiritual qualities of the Quranic ideas to the people in poetic language. Some of the poems in the Diwan give us the opportunity to get to know the social, political, ideological, cultural and international situation of Karabakh at that period. One such poems is the poet's murabbe (a form of lyric poetry) “Bakh”, published under the title “A Poem Dedicated to the Second Armenian-Muslim Conflict”. The poem consists of 26 stanzas. In this poem one can feel the influence of M.P.Vagif’s ghazal “Bakh”.
