Abstract

The article examines the role of Azerbaijani literature in the attainment of national liberation, socio-political and state independence at the end of the last century. Azerbaijani literature has historically played a significant role in the formation and development of national consciousness and the ideology of Azerbaijanism, and this factor became decisive in the triumph of the national ethos and the attainment of independence after decades of Soviet occupation. An analysis of the impact of socio-political processes on
the literary process demonstrates that Azerbaijani literature of the late Soviet period became an ideological platform for national self-awareness, the idea of independence, and the ideology of Azerbaijanism. The works of Sabir Rustamkhanli, Khalil Rza Uluturk, Bakhtiyar Vahabzadeh, Mammad Araz, and other literary figures are a perfect artistic embodiment of the idea of national independence. On the eve of independence, the reintroduction of the legacy of repression and emigration into intellectual circulation had a significant impact on the formation of national consciousness. Azerbaijani literature has fulfilled an important historical mission in the attainment of socio-political and state independence, in the restoration of national memory, and in the consolidation of the ideology of Azerbaijanism in the public consciousness.
