Abstract

In addition to the works of famous figures, the archives of the Institute of Manuscripts named after Mahammad Fuzuli of ANAS also preserve the works of poets, writers, and scholars whose names are little known to the world of science and literature or are not known at all. These literary, documentary, literarydocumentary, and scientific works written in different periods not only provide valuable information about the period in which they were written, but also introduce us to authors whose works have been overlooked. One of such authors is the enlightener and intellectual Ali Sarkarov, who lived and created in the late 19th
and early 20th centuries. His manuscripts, consisting of the stories “Two Lives,” “They Closed”, “Sister Sharifa”, “In One of Our Households,” and “Melaksima,” are preserved at the Institute of Manuscripts. The story "Two Lives" is A. Sarkarov's largest work in terms of volume and the most extensive in terms of the subject matter it covers. In the work, the author touched upon the problems related to education, training and upbringing that existed in Azerbaijani society at that time, and tried to determine the causes of these problems.
