Abstract

The research is based on the theme of the loss of genre characteristics and derivation of contemporary Azerbaijani drama. The topic was studied through the problem of proseization of contemporary drama.
The object of the research was Azerbaijani historical dramas during the period of independence. This choice
was made to concretize the general picture of this process that is destroying contemporary drama. These
dramas were involved in the analysis as separate episodes of a single process. Moreover, this process was
observed not only from within the artistic texts, but also from the stage. In the epic scene, which was born
from the process of gradually immobilizing the stage and making it a story, each of the three elements of
artistic material, actor and audience was brought to the object of analysis, and the issue of their place and
participation in the epic scene, unlike the dramatic scene, was touched upon. The scientific novelty of the
research is that drama is analyzed for the first time as a text built in a prose mentality. The main conclusions
of the analysis are that drama has been reduced to the status of a derivative genre from the three main genres
of literary thought.
