Azerbaijan Forestry Minister Najaf Bey Vazirov

Abstract

On November 21, 2024, a meeting on "Forest for climate, nature and people: Increasing climate
finance for forests" was held within the framework of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the
UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29). Hasan Bey Zardabi wrote the first articles in our
country on the importance of forests in Azerbaijan, the benefits of greenery, the negative effects of reducing
forests on the climate and similar topics. After Hasan Bey, Najaf Bey Vazirov talks about creating a forest
area and conducting experiments along with learning theoretical knowledge at the Petrovsky-Razumovsky
Academy in his first printed work published in “Akinchi” newspaper on December 19, 1875, No. 11.
Kamran Mammadov wrote, “He did not love the art of forestry by chance. As a result of the nature lessons
taught by Hasan Bey Zardabi, he entered the agricultural academy and successfully graduated from the
forestry department” [4, pg.27]. The life and creative works of Najaf Bey Vazirov, who wrote the first work
on the forests of Azerbaijan, is in the focus of Azerbaijani researchers who conduct research on ecology in
our time.
