Abstract

The art of ornamentation is very ancient – it is known that it has been practiced by our ancestors since the Paleolithic, but it is likely that it existed even earlier.

Ornamental images evoke aesthetic satisfaction in people, which in turn has a strong influence on people, creating associative chains in human logic that allow them to delve into the work and appreciate it.

According to scientific assumptions, ornamental art, familiar to man since the Paleolithic, has long been considered one of the leading types of art, and was used to decorate sheer cliffs, walls of buildings, household equipment, and tools.

The ornament – in almost all cultures, both today and in the past – contains a kind of visual language, which, in turn, is loaded with sacred (incantational, bewitching) content that carries semantic meaning.
