Abstract

The Nobel Prize was established on November 27, 1895, by the will of the world-famous chemist,
engineer and inventor Alfred Bernard Nobel. According to his will, the funds collected from the annual
interest of the Nobel Foundation should be transferred to individuals, groups of authors or organizations that
have achieved great achievements in five fields (chemistry, physics, medicine and physiology, literature and
peace). After his death in 1968, a separate prize in economics was established on the initiative of the Bank of Sweden. Although the prize in economics, called the “A. Nobel Memorial Prize”, is not paid from the funds
of the Nobel Foundation, its amount and status are no different from other prizes.
According to the Statutes of the Nobel Foundation, the prizes in chemistry and physics are awarded by the
Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, Carolina Medical-Surgical Institute of Medicine and Physiology of
Stockholm, the Swedish Academy of Literature and the special committee of the Norwegian Parliament for
the protection of peace.
The Swedish Academy, which has the final say in choosing the laureate in literature, was founded in 1786 by
Gustav III. Since its establishment, the Academy, which operates under the motto “Talent and Taste”, is
often unofficially called the Swedish Academy of Literature, since it specializes in literature and language
studies. Since 1901, in accordance with the will of Alfred Nobel and the statutes of the Nobel Foundation,
the list of laureates in literature has been determined by this institution.
In ANAS, which has a special position in the implementation of state policy in the field of science, various
meetings and events were held with Nobel laureates. In the article, the activity of the Academy on the subject
of the Nobel Prize is widely covered.
